Just another quick heads up: we can finally work on business intelligence projects – like SQL Server Reporting Services projects – in Visual Studio 2012!
Until now the most current version of Visual Studio would only support database projects. For business intelligence projects one had to use the previous version of Visual Studio as a shell.
Now Microsoft’s newest release of their SQL Server Data Tools (version 11.0.3360.12 of 2013-03-05) lets you work on Analysis Services, Integration Services, and Reporting Services projects in Visual Studio 2012.
As neither Visual Studio’s update mechanism nor the Web Platform Installer offer it yet you’ll have to download and install it yourself.
Be patient with the installer though: after the first round of installation it will disappear without feedback, take a short break to start SQL Server 2012’s setup, and after that take another short break to start SQL Server 2012 SP1’s setup.
Visual Studio crashes quite frequently when working on Reporting Services projects.
